Stine Goya’s Spring 2020 Fashion Show Was Inspired by Ballroom Culture

It’s official: mixing multiple colors of the rainbow in one outfit is the new black. All the confirmation that we needed that colorful fashion is in was the Stine Goya Spring Summer 2020 fashion show, which took place yesterday as part of Copenhagen Fashion Week. And as Vogue Runwaydeclares: “Stine Goya had the best show at Copenhagen Fashion Week.” We have to agree with our older sibling on this one, both Stine Goya’s collection and the runway performances stood out as an invigorating palate cleanser.

The electric show took place in what appeared to be a gymnasium...

NYFW Spring 2020:

What to Expect at New York Fashion Week in September

A shorter schedule is changing things up for the upcoming fashion week.

As summer enters its final month, the fashion industry is gearing up for another show season, but it’s starting with a New York Fashion Week that’s a bit different from seasons past.

The biggest news for the spring 2020 collections is that NYFW will be on a shorter official schedule, down to six days of shows listed on the calendar released by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The initiative to trim down the schedule was spearheaded by the CFDA’s new chairman, designer Tom Ford, who assumed the role from longtime CFDA head, Diane von Fur...

Better Together: Why These Three Young Brands are Teaming Up on a Group Show at NYFW

It’s going to be a tight New York Fashion Week this September. Earlier this summer, the CFDA announced that it would be shortening the official calendar, with shows running for just six days, from September 6 to 11. In light of the new time constraints, which leave little room for emerging designers to have a spot on the CFDA calendar, three labels are trying a different approach to the typical runway format. VaqueraCDLM/Creatures of The Wind, and Section 8 have decided to stage a triple-feature show on Monday, September 9 at 9 p.m. The labels will show in succession, with different music to accompany each collection. The CDLM/Creatures of The Wind lineup will be styled by Vogue’s Alex ...

Fresh from Madrid: Celebrations of Color, Craft, and Couture

Fresh from Madrid: Celebrations of Color, Craft, and Couture

I think of Madrid, that sophisticated city, as having some of the traits attributed to first-born children. It’s a structured capital, a bastion of heritage, hospitable, and a bit formal. Lately, though, Madrid’s been kicking up her heels fashion-wise. Call it the Palomo effect: In the wake of the much-celebrated Córdoba-based wunderkind, Alejandro Gómez Palomo, emerging Spanish talents are choosing to present their collections in the city. Like Palomo, many have returned from abroad with a renewed appreciation and passion for Spanish traditions. Their presence on the official schedule, or on its fringes, is starting to make the city’s fashion week feel like a place where discoveries can be made...

Ryan Murphy Heads Back to the Ballroom for Season 2 of “Pose”

Ryan Murphy Heads Back to the Ballroom for Season 2 of “Pose”

On an overcast and blustery spring day in New York, filming  continues on the fourth episode for Season 2 of Pose. A warehouse the size of a city block contains most of the world depicted in the series. There’s Blanca’s House of Evangelista apartment at one end, the renowned two-story ballroom a short walk away and Elektra’s S&M hotspot — Hellfire — tucked well out of sight. Since we live in the Age of the Spoiler Alert, it’s a rare event for a journalist to see any of this in real time. But the principals of Pose — Mj Rodriquez (Blanca), Indya Moore (Angel) and Dominique Jackson (Elektra) — have all agreed to provide a tantalizing glimpse into the realness they’ll be serving up this season.
